All active and enrolled Princeton undergraduate and graduate students may purchase a computer through this program.
New students can order once they receive their Princeton University netID and password.
Students participating in the Novogratz Bridge Year program are encouraged to hold off on purchasing a computer at this time. If you are a Bridge Year participant and have questions about purchasing a computer, please contact byp@princeton.edu.
Individuals admitted to Princeton University as a Visiting Student Research Collaborator are not eligible to purchase a student computer.
Seniors can purchase a student computer, however not all payment options are available after October of their senior year. After October, seniors can purchase a student computer by credit card only. If a senior has scholarship funds remaining that may be used to purchase a laptop, the order must be approved by the Office of Financial Aid before ordering.
Student computer purchasing is CLOSED for the 2021-22 academic year. We will open the 2022-23 order form on June 8, 2022. Students may order computers at any time throughout the year.
Once your order has been submitted, you will receive order status and tracking information from SHI, our student computer order partner. Please contact SHI at 888-764-8888 with any questions about orders.
At this time, we are still working through pricing and when our form opens in June, pricing will be displayed. Prices range from ~$1300-$2,000 depending on the model purchased. Apple computers tend to be more expensive than Dell models. The prices for Princeton are specifically negotiated with the vendors for Princeton students and cannot be combined with any other offer (such as Dell coupons or the Apple back-to-school discount or advertised offers).
Computers can only ship to addresses in the 50 states. If you live in a US territory or in another country, we recommend that you use your campus address as your ship-to address. The computer will be delivered to a locked box in Frist.
Due to supply chain issues, please allow up to 6 weeks for delivery. We cannot guarantee specific delivery times and cannot expedite shipping. Please select a shipping address where someone will be available to sign for the package. During the academic year we recommend students on campus use their Frist Center mailing address.
Upon order submission, you have 24 hours to cancel your order. During this 24 hour period, changes cannot be made to the original order, but you may cancel the order and create a new one.
After 24 hours, the order cannot be cancelled.
All sales are final. No returns or exchanges.

When purchasing a student computer, the following payment options are available to you:
If you choose the credit card option, you will be routed to our computer purchase partner SHI to complete your order. Your card will be charged by SHI upon shipment of your computer.
If you choose the Student account option, your charges will appear in your TigerHub Student account within a few weeks of shipment along with any Princeton charges for tuition, housing, etc. The student computer charge will be subject to the same rules as any other student account charge. Payments are due in full at the end of the month in which the charge appears on your bill. If you purchase your computer in August, the charge will likely appear on your student account in September, and the full amount (along with any other charges, like tuition, that also appear on your account) will be due at the end of September or on the due date printed on the bill.
For questions about student account charges, please call Student Accounts at 609-258-6378.
If you are an undergraduate student receiving need-based financial aid from Princeton, you can borrow through one of the subsidized student loan programs to cover the cost of your computer. Students who qualify will be offered this payment option on their order form. This aid will be in the form of a loan, not a grant.* If your online order form does not include this option and you believe you are an eligible aid student, you can contact the financial aid office at 609-258-3330, or by email at faoffice@princeton.edu.
If you are an undergraduate receiving a Princeton grant but the amount was reduced as a result of an outside scholarship, you may use lost grant funds toward the purchase of a computer. Select Financial Aid as your payment option; we will automatically use grant funds up to the amount your grant was reduced (capped at $3,500) for the receipt of an outside award. This option must be used in the same academic year the reduction occurred and is available once during your undergraduate years at Princeton. Students should contact faoffice@princeton.edu for details specific to their situation.
Please read Outside Scholarship toward the one-time purchase of a personal computer up
Note: If your outside scholarship exceeds your need, you are not eligible for University grant funds to purchase a computer.
Charges that post to your student account automatically will reduce your stipend unless there are sufficient funds in the account to cover the charge, such as loan credit. The amount by which your stipend will be reduced depends on the amount of the charge as well as when the computer is purchased. The stipend will be reduced by the total outstanding balance, divided by the number of pay periods remaining in the current semester. For example, assuming your previous Student Account balance is zero ($0), your computer purchase is $1600, and there are 4 pay periods left in the current semester, each of the remaining stipend payments would be reduced by $400.
Graduate students who are US citizens or permanent residents may be eligible for a federal student loan to cover their computer purchase. For more information, contact the Graduate School Office at 609-258-3028 or see the online information for Graduate Financial Aid. If you arrange for a Graduate Student loan, your computer purchase will be charged to your Student Account. When the proceeds of your loan are received, you are responsible for paying off the computer on your Student Account with the funds from the federal student loan. Please contact the Student Accounts office at studacct@princeton.edu or by calling 609-258-6378 once your loan has been authorized.
