Important
- In order to log into Jabber you will need to have Duo to authenticate. Please see this KB article for more information: Duo KB Article
- To make 911 emergency calls, use either a landline or your cellular provider. The Jabber app is not a recommended method of calling emergency services
- If you are installing Jabber on multiple iOS devices, Jabber phone services can only be active on one iPhone and one iPad at a time
- You will need to accept (Press OK) in the 911 notification to be able to use Jabber phone services

Getting Started
A Jabber quick reference card and in-depth video tutorial are available from https://princeton.videoshowcase.net. These materials are focused on Windows desktops, however, the topics covered can be useful to all Jabber users.
Recommended options
- Allow Jabber to access the Microphone
- Open the Settings app and go to Jabber
- Turn on the Microphone
- Allow Jabber to send notifications
- Open the Settings app and go to Jabber > Notifications
- Turn on Allow Notifications
Placing calls
Use one of the following methods:
- Dial a number directly
- Tap the Calls tab at the bottom of the Jabber app display
- Select Keypad at the top of the display
- Enter a phone number from the keypad
- Place the call by tapping the green Call icon
- Call someone in your contacts list
- Tap the Contacts tab at the bottom of the Jabber app display
- Swipe left on their name and tap the Call button
- Call someone from a directory search
- Tap the Contacts tab at the bottom of the Jabber app display
- Enter a name in the search box at the top of the display
- Select a name from the search results
- Place the call by tapping the call icon at upper right
Receiving calls
- You must be signed into the Jabber app to receive calls, but the app does not have to be running in the foreground
- Follow the onscreen prompts to answer an incoming call
Check voicemail
- Tap the Voice Messages tab at the bottom of the Jabber app display
- Select Inbox at the top of the display
- Tap a voice message then tap the play button to listen to it. Audio will start to play from the from the hands-free speaker and will automatically switch to the receiver earpiece when the phone is held up to your ear.
- To delete a voice message, swipe it to the left and tap Delete
Place a call on hold
- While a call is in progress, switch to the Jabber app
- Tap the ellipsis button and select Hold from the pop-up menu
Known Issues
- Problem: The Jabber client may stop receiving calls when moving from the campus wi-fi network to a cellular network
- Solution: Sign out of the Jabber app and sign back in again.
- Problem: Jabber does not allow voice calling on Eduroam.
- Solution: Make sure iCloud Private Relay is turned off. This will not allow Jabber to make or receive calls while on Eduroam.
