Final Transcript: Submission Guidelines and Instructions

If an offer of admission is accepted, a final official transcript from each institution where a degree was earned is required by August 20. Enrollment may be terminated if a student fails to provide an official transcript of degree, study, or other academic work that was presented as part of the admission application.

Transcript documentation uploaded as part of your application package cannot be used to fulfill this requirement.

If you will not be able to submit by the August 20th deadline for any reason, please inform Graduate Admission at gradapp@princeton.edu.

Final Transcript Requirements

  • Completion of coursework required for the degree: : If the transcript is for a degree program, please wait to send the final transcript until the degree has been awarded and is marked on your official transcript. No interim transcript is necessary.
  • Prior Degree from Princeton: If you have previously earned a degree from Princeton, you will need to contact the Registrar to have your transcript sent to Graduate Admission.
  • Title of degree earned and date the degree was conferred or awarded: If you received a degree from the institution, the final official transcript (or an accompanying degree certificate) must indicate that the degree was awarded.
  • If the degree title and confer or award date are not on the transcript: Include a separate degree certificate or diploma to accompany the transcript. We cannot accept a final transcript for a degree program unless we receive both a transcript of grades and an indication that the degree was awarded.
  • English translation (if needed): If transcripts are not in English, a certified English translation must be either sent directly from the translator to Princeton, or in a sealed envelope stamped by the translator.
  • Official marking from the school: Transcripts must be stamped, sealed, and/or embossed.
  • Original documents: Original or certified documents are required and will be held on file until the program is completed, at which time you may request to pick them up. If your institution only issues you one document, consider Educational Perspectives Credential Verification Service (see below).

Transcripts from institutions in the People’s Republic of China

Transcripts and degree certificates are required and each must be verified by the China Credentials Verification agency (CSSD). All verification reports and any academic records should be issued in the English language.

Please note: Since we will receive your documents directly from CSSD, universities do not need to issue transcripts and degree certificates to Princeton.

Acceptable Delivery Methods

Certified Electronic Transcripts - Preferred Method

If your institution is able to send a certified electronic transcript (either via email or from Parchment, eSCRIP-SAFE, Digitary, National Student Clearinghouse, etc.), it should be sent to:

gradapp@princeton.edu

PDF copies sent from students are not accepted.

Educational Perspectives Credential Verification Service (International Final Transcripts Only)

International academic credentials can be reviewed, certified, and uploaded directly to your Princeton application record through Educational Perspectives. There is a fee for this service.

Official Paper Final Transcripts

If your institution is mailing a paper transcript, please have it sent to the appropriate address, below. The transcript must be received in an envelope sealed by the issuing institution and contain authentication, such as a signature or raised seal.

If a college or university will only issue transcripts directly to the student, the transcripts should be sent in the original unopened institutional envelope.
