Windows 10 setup for university owned computers

IMPORTANT: Contact your SCAD/DCS support person before starting to set up your new computer.

Step through the Windows Out-of-Box-Experience (OOBE)

Welcome

• Select a language
• Wait for the Cortana introduction to finish
• Click the microphone icon at lower left to disable Cortana

Basics

• Select a Region
• Select a keyboard layout
• When asked to select a second keyboard layout, click Skip

Network - Let's connect you to a network (DON'T conect at this time)

• Select I don't have internet
• When prompted to confirm your selection, select Continue with limited setup

Windows 10 license agreement

• Accept the license agreement

Account - Who's going to use this PC?

• When asked "Who is going to use this PC"
  
  • Enter a temporary account name
  • Enter a password
  • Setup your security questions
• When prompted to "Use your face to sign in...", select Skip for now
• NOTE: This account is temporary and will be deleted in a later step

Activity History

• Click No

Get help from your digital assistant

• When prompted to make Cortana your personal assistant, select Decline

Choose privacy settings for your device

• Disable all privacy settings
• Click Accept

Support and Protection

• On the first Support and Protection screen click Next without changing anything
• On the second Support and Protection screen
  
  • Check the first box 
  • Uncheck the second box
  • Click Next

When the Windows 10 desktop appears:

• Connect to a network. See the following Microsoft article: Connect to a Wi-Fi network in Windows 10
• If prompted to make Windows discoverable, select No

Contact your SCAD/DCS support person to complete the setup.
