IT Asset Recovery

IT Asset Recovery Service

OIT provides an IT asset recovery service which ensures the proper collection and disposal/e-recycling of broken, outdated, and unusable computing equipment. To schedule a pickup, please work with your department IT support staff. They will assist with verifying that your IT equipment is eligible for this service, completing the request, and scheduling the pickup.

OIT will:

  1. Pick up the equipment.
  2. Unenroll any managed device(s) from Princeton device management programs (JAMF, Intune).
  3. Wipe the device.
  4. Send the device to e-recycling, or in some cases, repurpose the equipment for University use.
  5. Update and ultimately retire/remove the device from inventory in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) (asset, CI and network records).

Note: When a user is separating from the University, or when a University-owned computer reaches end of life, the computer must be returned.  Users may not purchase a University-owned computer per the Office of Finance & Treasury's Computer Equipment Policy.
