What is SecureSend?
SecureSend is a file sharing service which allows you to securely send files using an online portal: online portal
Why use SecureSend?
- Files sent through SecureSend apply secure encryption protocols that can be large files, up to 130GB (gigabytes).
- Email exchanged between a Princeton University email account and one managed by an outside organization is not secure. The message and attachments passing between the sender's and recipient's email systems are in a form that can be read by anyone with access to the computers or networking equipment through which the email travels.
- Email exchanged exclusively among Princeton University email accounts is afforded a higher level of security. Each message is encrypted as it travels from the sender to the University's email server and from the University's email server to the recipient.
- Since Princeton allows any email user to forward their University email to a non-Princeton email account, your message to a Princeton email account may travel outside our secure environment. The message may be delivered in a non-secure method to the other account (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo mail, etc.).
Account and File Expiration
- SecureSend requires registration to use the service. If you have a Princeton NetID, then you are automatically registered to access the service. External non-Princeton users must be invited to register before using the service.
- If you have not logged in to your SecureSend account in 30 days, it will automatically expire due to inactivity. If that occurs, then members of the Princeton community can log in again. External, non-Princeton users, must be re-invited by someone at Princeton.
- Files shared using SecureSend are securely erased from the server after 7 days. Files needed for a longer period must be resent.
