VMware Desktop Hypervisor Pro allows users to run Windows programs alongside Mac applications with VMware Fusion, and/or run Windows or Linux virtual machines from either platform with VMware Workstation.
Please be advised that the university's Microsoft agreement does not include using Windows on ARM processors.
To participate in Campus Agreement for the Windows operating system the device must have been purchased with an OEM copy of Windows or Intel-based Mac OS installed. Linux is not included nor are Apple Silicon-based (M1/M2/M3) Mac computers.
If the device was not purchased with an OEM copy of Windows or Intel-based Mac OS installed, a retail OEM copy of the Windows OS can be purchased in Prime Marketplace or through Microsoft directly. Virtualizing Windows on Apple Silicon-based (M1/M2/M3) Macs is not covered by the terms of our Campus Agreement.
On Nov 11, 2024, Broadcom announced that VMware Desktop Hypervisor (VMware Fusion Pro & VMware Workstation Pro) is available free for Commercial, Educational, and Personal users. For details on this and subscription options, refer to the following blog post.
Note: No license key is required for the free version. When installing either application, you will be asked for a License Key and there will be an option to select for Personal Use.
