Canvas: How do Canvas users without a NetID reset passwords?


Most users who access Princeton University's Canvas Learning Management System do so with their University NetID and password. Some users, however, have special Canvas-only accounts that are not provisioned or managed by the University's Central Authentication Service.   Persons with these Canvas-only accounts should follow the protocols listed below if they forget their Canvas password.



Community Auditors

(Persons whose Canvas ID's begin with au_)

When participants in Princeton University's Community Auditor Program register with the University's CampusCE system, Canvas accounts are created at that time.

If you are a Community Auditor Program participant who has forgotten their password, you may reset your password by doing the following:

  1. Visit the CampusCE password reset page and enter your CampusCE username and the email address you provided the University.
  2. Upon completion of the form, a temporary password will be sent to your email.
  3. Once you've received the temporary password, log in to CampusCE using the temporary password provided.
  4. Upon login, you will be prompted to change your password. Your new password must be at least 8 characters and may contain any combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.)
  5. Soon after you've changed your password, you will be able to log in to Canvas using the new password. 

    IMPORTANT NOTE: You will not be able to log into Canvas immediately after changing your password.  It will take up to half an hour for newly changed passwords to be updated in Canvas.



Students in Partnership Courses

(Persons whose Canvas ID's begin with is_)

Participants in Princeton University's Partnership Courses who have forgotten their password should send an email to canvas@princeton.edu.  In your message, please provide your Canvas ID (it will begin with is_) and the email address associated with your Canvas@Princeton account.
